Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy on the Main Line

When a person initiates therapy to address a sexuality issue, it is called sex therapy.  Sex therapy can be done either individually or with a partner.

Sexuality is a lifelong process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs, and values about identity, relationships, and intimacy. It encompasses sexual development, reproductive health, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy, body image, and gender roles. Sexuality has biological, sociocultural, psychological, and spiritual dimensions.

In sex therapy at Main Line Relationship Center, we will explore your sexuality cognitively (thoughts, knowledge, information), affectively (feelings, values, and attitudes) and behaviorally (communication, decision-making, sexual behavior).

Although a sexual symptom may be the impetus for beginning therapy, the focus of therapy will not be exclusively on sex behaviors, but on the much broader topic of sexuality.

Common presenting problems / symptoms include:

  • Inhibited sexual desire / ISD / low sex drive
  • Anorgasmia / lack of orgasm
  • Dyspareunia / painful intercourse
  • Vaginismus / spasms preventing vaginal penetration
  • Premature ejaculation / PE / rapid ejaculation
  • Delayed ejaculation / retarded ejaculation
  • Erectile dysfunction / ED
  • Compulsive sexual behavior / sex addiction
  • Sexually transmitted infections / STIs / STDs
  • Incompatible couple sex drive
